When recycling becomes restoration: The alliance that transforms waste into life

Every year, we generate thousands of electronic waste such as cell phones, computers, cables, chargers, and others that we occasionally stop using, but the consumption, production of these devices, and the pollution they generate when not properly recycled, seem to never disappear.

This waste, known by its acronym WEEE, ‘Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment’, are discards that contain hazardous materials that can contaminate water, soil, and affect the health of humans and animals if not managed correctly.

However, it's not all bad news; there's another way to look at this situation: Recycling this waste is not the end of the cycle, but the beginning of something new.

From simple waste to real impact: Actions with Lito Green Points

Through Lito Green Points, individuals and/or companies can hand over their WEEE and manage them responsibly. Their process is simple:

- You recycle your WEEE

- You accumulate points

- And those points are converted into planted trees or mangroves.

This model ensures that the everyday use of electronic products connects with a real impact, transforming recycling tools into an active tool for change.

Under this model, the alliance between Saving the Amazon and Lito Green Points is born, thanks to a shared vision: transforming individual actions into collective impact. A powerful connection where what was once waste can become dignified work, ecosystem restoration, and quality of life for other people.

This alliance stems from a great partner of Saving the Amazon, Banco AV Villas, a partner linked to Green Points for the recycling of its electronic waste. At AV Villas, they dreamed of planting trees in the Colombian Amazon, and from there, a connection emerged that has grown, linking more than 75 companies that every year, according to the recycling of their WEEE, donate their points for planting native trees.

From points to forest: What have we built?

Thanks to the alliance and the points accumulated through the recycling of electronic waste, today we have planted more than 10,000 trees in the Amazon, impacting more than 8 local communities linked to our environmental and ecosystem restoration projects, such as mangroves, all with a focus on community work and long-term sustainability. The real impact is reflected and drives two key dimensions:

- Environmental: Recovering strategic ecosystems, reducing polluting waste, and protecting biodiversity.

- Social: Generating income for local communities, fostering participation, and strengthening the capacities of women, families, and fishermen, because communities not only participate, they are protagonists of change.

Recycling a device may seem like a small action, but when connected with initiatives like this, it becomes something much bigger. Because today, more than ever, we need to understand that every decision counts, and that even what we discard can be part of the solution.

We invite you to learn about Lito Green Points, manage your electronic waste with them, and transform them into native trees thanks to the alliance with Saving The Amazon.
