Do you know what Law 2173 of 2021 is?

On December 30, 2021, Law 2173 was issued by the Congress of the Republic. This law seeks to encourage the ecological restoration of the territory through the planting of native trees in established zones. The designated spaces for planting or specialized zones are called “Life Areas” and entities such as: planning secretariats, mayoralties, environmental authorities, etc., will be responsible for determining and delimiting these zones.

“By which ecological restoration is promoted through the planting of trees and creation of forests in the national territory, stimulating environmental awareness in citizens, environmental civil liability in companies, and environmental commitment in territorial entities; life areas are created and other provisions are established”

Large and medium-sized companies already established are obliged to plant two trees per employee as part of the program's implementation. Those organizations that comply with the law must receive the “Business Life Planting” certificate from the Secretariats of Environment and Planning responsible for the “Life Area”.

As a small business or natural person, you can also be part of this congressional initiative voluntarily. Likewise, you can receive a certificate valid for one year and with which you will have access to some benefits such as:

Discounts on educational tuition, certificates of tradition and freedom for real estate, apostille procedures and legalization of documents. For more information, you can consult Article 5 of Law 2173.
