The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) established by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 in what has been established as the 2030 Agenda, have become a roadmap and challenge for all of society and especially for companies. These objectives allow us to set strategies and action plans focused on progressing sustainably without leaving anyone behind. At Saving The Amazon we care about contributing to the 2030 Agenda by supporting the different SDGs from our work as an NGO, in order to help build a better world.
What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
and why do we need them?
The Sustainable Development Goals , or by its acronym ODS, are a set of global objectives adopted on September 25, 2015 by world leaders, raised in order to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. 17 goals are part of the social, economic and environmental transformation and are a universal call and an invitation to become an agent of change. To achieve these goals established in the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development , we all have to do our part, from governments, the private sector, to people in their day-to-day lives.
The world has experienced unprecedented, accelerated economic growth in recent decades , this has allowed us to see how different spheres of daily life have progressed. However, we have seen that this growth has also had a negative impact on environmental and social aspects. Currently the planet is suffering from a climate emergency , society is experiencing the highest levels of inequality and we are seeing the results of a severe environmental crisis . This is why, as a society, we must consider action routes to guide our future in a more sustainable and equitable way. The SDGs allow us to chart this collective path (governments, companies, social organizations and civil society) towards a better future. Furthermore, by being universal and detailed, they allow everyone to be taking action in favor of development from different themes and towards different specific goals.

From Saving The Amazon we contribute to the SDGs
The SDGs are a guide that, in addition to allowing us to identify our social, environmental and economic impact, allow us to direct our actions towards a more sustainable route that adds value to society and the communities with which we work. At Saving The Amazon we have joined efforts to achieve several of these objectives, thus generating a positive impact on society and contributing our seed to reach the 2030 purpose with a more hopeful world outlook. We want you to learn more about our work, which is why we tell you about our contribution to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals:
End Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
In the development of our purpose of conserving the Amazon and its population, we established a line to employ indigenous communities , in which through productive projects of reforestation of native species in Amazonian lands, they are guaranteed an economic income and the use responsible for the resources granted by planting. We contribute to this first objective by generating jobs, guaranteeing social inclusion and promoting the improvement of the quality of life of communities in a sustainable manner.
Zero Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition.
For 6 years we have established more than 13,000 trees, which were chosen by the indigenous communities that participated in their planting, so that they could provide them with edible fruits and seeds, providing them with food, guaranteeing their food security and improving the nutrition of their population in addition to the maintaining their essential eating habits. Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
Our projects link women to be an active member of our NGO, proof of this has been the work we have done with associations such as Mujeres Cabeza de Hogar del Pacífico -MUCAHOPA- and the Fundación Casa de la Mujer del Vaupés -FUCAMUVA- which has allowed to empower the women who are part of it.
Soon we will tell you more about the SDGs, the plans that have been proposed to achieve their fulfillment and the other objectives for which we also work every day.
Do you want to be part of the change? Support us and together we reach the goals proposed by the United Nations for a sustainable and equitable future.
